Ali Abbas Zafar has announced a couple of projects this year. He first announced a movie with Katrina Kaif, terming it a superhero movie and then a Mr. India reboot. While fans were confused about whether the Katrina movie and the Mr. India reboot were one and the same, Shekhar Kapur and Sonam Kapoor lashed out at him on social media. The issue died down a while ago, and Ali is back talking about his projects, and there’s some clarity now.

Speaking to TOI, Ali Abbas Zafar said the Katrina movie and the Mr. India reboot are in the same universe and the Mr. India reboot will take some aspects from the Katrina movie. Abbas was quite chatty about the projects, saying that he’s creating a superhero universe with two more characters, including the Katrina character and the Mr. India character. He revealed that the two characters were from the military background and someone rooted in Indian mythology.

Its commendable that Ali Abbas Zafar hasn’t yet compared his project to the Avengers, but  keen eyed reporters – who are very less in number – will notice the similarities. The superhero with the military background, Captain America. The someone rooted in Indian mythology, Thor. Mr. India, who fights enemies with gadgets, under all the charisma, Iron Man is still an inventor. And no prizes for guessing where Black Widow fits in here.

Indian audiences have been crying for an Indian superhero verse, but fact of the matter is that we didn’t have those many superheroes. Even if we did, the internal dynamics would never work out. Beginning from the Late Mehmood to the current charmer Tiger Shroff, several actors have played superheroes. Jackie Shroff, Tiger Shroff’s papa  has played  a superhero in Shiva ka Insaaf in 1985.  With Zafar working out a umbrella production kind of thing, it will be interesting to see when and how this project picks up.  Al Abbas Zafar has the wherewithal to hold a big budget movie (Sultan, Ek Tha Tiger, Bharat), so, fingers crossed.
