David Arquette is back, people! The endearing character Dewey Riley in the Scream franchise is back. Dewey has been part of all the four Scream movies. While David is back, there’s talk that other actors from the original franchise are in talks to return for a Scream sequel to return as well. The reports suggest that this will be an original story and not a remake of the other Scream movies.
Scream is one of the few Hollywood horror movies that were popular among the Indian audiences. Arquette said, “I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my ‘Scream’ family, old and new. ‘Scream’ is a big part of my life. For both the fans and myself, I look forward to honoring Wes Craven’s legacy.”
Earlier, there have been rumors that Neve Campbell is in talks to return to the franchise as well. There are other names in the talks. Sidney Prescott and Matthew Lillard, have shown interest in returning to the franchise. David Aqruette is the first among the retro cast to officially return to the franchise.

When Scream returns, it becomes one of the many 90s franchises that are returning to the screens in one way or the other. Before the lockdown, we had two movies of the old franchises returning, The Invisible Man and Fantasy Island. The Invisible Man did good business but people didn’t warm up to Fantasy Island. As the year closes, we have a Halloween movie to look out for.
Scream, meanwhile, was also a successful webseries over at Netflix. It became one of the few movie franchises that had a good run as a web series concept. David Arquette was not part of that series. So, its good news that he’s returning for the Scream sequel.
James Vanderbilt writes the original script for this one. Spyglass is producing this through Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak.
Kevin Williamson and Chad Villella are executive producers. Matt Bettineli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet are directing.
