Elaan was earlier on YouTube, and now its on Netflix. That’s good news for the ones who have the rights for the Bollywood sci-fi movie. If it’s on Netflix, it means they are making money from it again.
Why is this 70s movie so important? Elaan during the sci-fi/fantasy wave that took Bollywood by storm. One look at it and you’ll know that this movie had everything in it – something about a treasure, something about a deserted island. The cherry on the cake was the basic concept – the invisibility ring. Vinod Mehra, Rekha, and Vinod Khanna star, with Vinod Khanna playing the antagonist.
The IMDB logline is fascinating enough from the get-go:
Journalist Naresh is hired to probe illegal activities on an island. When he’s captured, a fellow prisoner gives him a ring with magic powers.
Surprisingly, Elaan isn’t the only campy and pulp Bollywood cinema that’s available on Netflix. I saw that there’s several movies from the enthusiastic eighties and naughty nineties available on YouTube. You actually have movies like Mithun Chakraborthy’s Jaal and Sanjay Dutt’s Khalnayak.
Netflix seems to have taken a page out of Amazon Prime’s notebook, who in turn seems to have taken a page out of YouTube’s notebook. These three platforms now have a lot of mainstream, pulp Bollywood movies that you can watch to relax and take a trip down Nostalgia lane.
If you, like me, like to come home and relax with a cold one and a 70s-80s-90s movie that’s equally about a good story and the culture of that time, these three platforms now have you covered.
