Fantasy Island is one of the many properties that Blumhouse is putting through the reboot machines. The seventies TV series was about a very rich man who granted fantasies to people who visit his private island. The series gained cult status and aired from 1977 to 1984.
The series has tackled every storyline that a horror enthusiast could wish for, with two of the stories actually having the devil himself. Then, there was one story about a woman wanting to find out who Jack The Ripper is, so she transports herself back to the 1800s. While the series had a distinct sci-fi feel to it, Ricardo Montalban, the man who played Mr. Roarke, the owner of the island, said in an interview that for him, Mr. Roarke was a fallen angel and Fantasy Island was his purgatory.
Blumhouse is now doing a horror-themed reboot of the movie. The official Blumhouse Facebook page has revealed the first look of the movie with these photos:
Jeff Wadlow directs Fantasy Island. Chris Roach, Jillian Jacobs and Jeff Wadlow have written the script. Maggie Q, Lucy Hale, Portia Doubleday, and Michael Pena comprise the cast.
Fantasy Island is the latest retro IP to get the Blumhouse look. Blumhouse is bringing in a reboot of The Invisible Man and the Halloween franchise as well.
