Ghost Stories is the latest horror movie to hit Indian audiences. Ghost Stories is the spiritual sequel to the Netflix series Lust Stories. The horror movie has four short segments shot by some of the brightest minds in the industry. Zoya Akthar, Dibakar Banerjee, Anurag Kashyap and Karan Johar direct four different short films that release under this title. The teaser is out now and reveals the tone of the series – and it is dark and gritty.

Ghost Stories seems to handle all the genres the directors are well known for. I could see at least two scenes that hinted at one of the segments set in a rich household. That could be Karan Johar or Zoya Akthar. Then, there’s that whacky visual of someone feeding a doll – that could be Anurag Kashyap. Currently, Dibakar’s film-making style is all over the teaser. The series stars Janhvi Kapoor, Sobhita Dhulipala, Gulshan Devaiah, Mrunal Thakur, Surekha Sikri, and others.
There are many aspects interesting about Ghost Stories and what drives me towards it. To begin with, the title card is a hark to the old school style used in some of the most memorable Bollywood horror movies, like Tahkhana and Veerana. Jhanvi Kapoor seems to be regaling in the de-glam look that she’s sporting in this Netflix horror movie.
This is not Karan Johar’s first foray into horror. A decade or so ago, he bankrolled the Soham directed creature horror movie Kaal, starring Ajay Devgn in the lead role with a glamour song featuring Shah Rukh Khan.
