Ali Fazal Is Not The Token Indian In Death On The Nile

Hollywood Murder Mystery Film

We previously reported that Ali Fazal is part of the cast of the Hollywood mystery thriller film Death on The Nile. Now, reports are trickling in about the roles. In a recent interview, Ali Fazal confirmed that he is not playing an Indian in the film. That’s heartening, because many a ‘big’ film and series consider the Asian actors as a ‘token’ for diversity. So, its interesting to hear that Ali is not playing the typical token Indian in the film. The 2020 Death on the Nile is the second adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel.

Ali is  kicked about playing the role. He posted about it on his Instagram. Kenneth Brannagh returns to direct a screenplay by Michael Green. The rest of the cast includes Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Letita Wright and others. Kenneth Brannagh plays a role in the film as well. Death on the Nile also marks the embarkment of Christieworld.  The first film in this franchise is the Hollywood mystery thriller film Murder on the Orient Express. It’s rare for a mystery film to make to the theaters, specially in India. So, this should be very good news for the Indian audience that’s looking for stories that aren’t the typical love, drama and mythological. This is not the first Hollywood outing for Ali. He has earlier had a small but interesting role in the Fast and the Furious franchise. He also played the titular role in Victorial & Abdul.

Meanwhile, more and more creators are looking to older novels and stories for their scripts and films. Directors are creating films out of older Stephen King novels as well. Recently, the sequel to Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep was adapted into a film. That film releases in November. A film based on HG Wells’ short story The Country of the Blind is in the works as well.
