Mainstream content creators are looking at horror in a big way. One of the most popular Bollywood film franchises, Housefull, will have a reincarnation theme in its latest installment, making it a Bollywood horror movie. With the franchise being firmly comedy, this is one of the few Bollywood horror movies with a comedy twist coming our way. Earlier, the Golmaal franchise stepped up into the world of horror with Golmaal 4. That film had a ghost haunting a mansion. Housefull 4 has a house full cast already, which includes Bobby Deol, Rana Dagubatti, Kriti Sanon, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and others. With this, Housefull 4 can also be the highest budgeted Bollywood horror film.
Akshay Kumar, Boney Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh pose at Housefull 4 Set:
Controversy marred Housefull 4 for a while, so promotional activities have lulled. Initially, Sajid Khan was directing the film. After the #MeToo movement caught up with him, Farhad Samji replaced him. Nana Patekar also had to face the onslaught of the #MeToo movement, and Rana Dagubatti replaced him. With the film settled for a Diwali release, press about it should begin any time now. In fact, we might see a music launch soon. That will tell us more about the film’s story.
The Housefull franchise started with the first film in the franchise releasing in 2010. Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Lara Dutta, Chunky Pandey and others were part of the cast. The success of that film ignited the franchise, with the second film launching in 2012. The third film launched in 2016. None of these film were even close to the concept of Bollywood horror movies, but the first film had somewhat of a supernatural/occult one, with the protagonist suffering from a jinx. Then again, Akshay Kumar is somewhat of a poster boy of weird Bollywood movies. He starred in films like Joker and Bhool Bhulaiya. The latter became a cult classic and will be remade, Joker didn’t do well at the box office. Will this be a Bollywood horror movie franchise?, time will tell.
