Janhvi Kapoor tasted OTT release just before the lockdown. She played the role of a nurse in Karan Johar’s Ghost Stories, the anthology series on Netflix. Her upcoming release is the Bollywood horror movie Roohi Afzana, a comedy. The Bollywood horror comedy is in post production.  We know absolutely nothing about it – apart from some rumors. The movie’s big ticket. It stars Rajkummar Rao, Jhanvi Kapoor, Varun Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Seema Pahwa, Ronit Roy, Aamna Sharif and others. Maddock Films produces and Hardik Mehta directs.

There’s just one photo of the movie as well. Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Sharma looking scared. Rumors sugges that Roohi Afzana might just release on one of the big OTT platforms.

The film makers have good precedent.  Laxxmi Bomb, another big ticket Bollywood horror movie will hit Disney+Hotstar. I wonder if Roohi Afzana will really release on an OTT platform.  Its quite a possibility, but with no promos and not even a trailer, the Bollywood horror movie seems too far away from a release. Cities are opening up things in a graded manner. I guess the producers might want to wait it out for a further three months and see whether it make sense to release the movie in theaters.

According to this Hindustan Times report, apart from Roohi Afzana, at least five other movies might make it to the OTT platforms. The theater scenario is getting bleaker and this seems to be just a tip of the iceberg. The theaters might open up but the ticket prices will either be too prohibitory to have the common audience watch the movie. And its possible that the the experience will scare off an entire population that has been hammered by information about the dangers of the Coronavirus.
