Mike Flanagan To Direct Midnight Mass for Netflix

Mike Flanagan is on a roll with Netflix. Last year, he directed The Haunting of Hill House. This year, he’ll be busy with Haunting on Bly Manor. Along with this, Mike is also directing Midnight Mass for Netflix. The series is based on a book. The seven-episode web series is about a group of people living on an isolated island, who face some supernatural occurrences when a charismatic man decides to live among them.

Flanagan announced that shooting for Midnight Mass will begin in 2020. The term midnight mass has greater relevance for Catholics. Traditionally, an important Catholic Mass takes place during midnight – hence the term Midnight Mass. Therefore, there’s every hint that the series has some Catholic connection.

Midnight Mass has an interesting origin. The book featured in the web series HUSH as well as the Netflix Short Film Gerald’s Game. Mike Flanagan fans will also be interested to know that Flanagan will direct all episodes.

Flanagan is the name to go to horror right now. He’s a right out horror alum, with movies like Oculus, Hush, Before I Wake, Ouija: Origin of Evil and Doctor Sleep under his belt. Interestingly, Bollywood adapted his movie, Oculus to make Dobaara: See Your Evil. He’s name pops up in the credits, a rarity for a Bollywood movie.
