Bollywood Horror Films We Can’t Wait To Watch

Bollywood horror films are finally in. Whether it’s Stree or Housefull 4 or Ghost, audiences are now looking forward to them and mainstream critics are taking them in their stride. Here are the top  five Bollywood horror movies that we are waiting for:

# 1 Stree 2

Stree was the movie that finally proved that horror movies can be entertaining,  educating, scary and make money at the box office. The movie was a surprise hit at the box office and won critical as well as commercial acclaim.  The movie had a stellar cast, a great script and the much-valued X factor when it comes to Bollywood horror movies and Bollywood movies in general.

Rajkummar Rao, the poster boy of interesting horror movies, right from Ragini MMS to this one, was accompanied by Shraddha Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurrana and Pankaj Tripathi in this Bollywood horror movie.

The second part in the franchise was always on the cards. Now, rumors say that the sequel will go on floors as early as next year. That’s a sequel to a Bollywood movie within two years of the release of the first movie. A rare scenario, but nonetheless, it’s happening.

There’s no date set for the release of Stree 2

#2 Roohi Afza

Roohi Afza is already on the floors, so this one should hit the theaters around April 2020. The Bollywood horror movie stars Rajkummar Rao and Jhanvi Kapoor. We know precious little about the story and everything, but the names attached to the movie are impressive on their own, making it one of the most anticipated Bollywood horror movies.

We have Pankaj Tripathi in the cast. Shraddha Kapoor makes a cameo in the movie. Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films produces this script by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba. Hardik Mehta directs.  Along with these. we have Varun Sharma, Rohit Roy, Seema Pahwa, Aamna Sharif and Abhinav Chaturvedi.

Roohi Afza hits theaters on April 17, 2020.

# 3 Ghost Stories

This is a Netflix anthology movie that’s a spiritual sequel to the Netflix anthology, Lust Stories. The crew and cast of the movie are impeccable. It’s got Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akthar, Anurag Kashyap and Karan Johar directing horror-themed movies. The Ghost Stories trailer has dropped recently and looks very promising. Netflix is a great platform for interesting content. Their mere presence makes this one of the most anticipated Bollywood horror movies.

The anthology movie comprises four stories and the trailer is good enough to tell us what the stories are about. A newly married woman finds out that her marital house has a resident ghost. Another is about a young nurse who’s taking care of an elderly woman – only to find out that there’s some spiritual energy around them. The other two stories are a little complicated, so I will wait until the actual movie release.

Ghost Stories premieres on Netflix on January 1, 2020

#4 Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

This is the sequel to the cult classic Akshay Kumar starrer that released in 2008. There are conflicting reports about whether this is a sequel or a remake. It stars Karthik Aryan and Kiara Advani. It will be interesting to see what the script follows. In 2008, paranormal investigators were unheard of.

With the success of The Conjuring, everyone wants to make a movie about paranormal investigators. In the original Bhool Bhulaiya, Akshay Kumar played a psychologist who concluded that science and the occult were two parts of the same coin. Let’s see what the movie has to say this time.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 releases 31 July, 2020.

#5 Laxxmi Bomb

And here comes the entertainment for the masses. This is one of the few Bollywood horror films that has had quite some publicity even before it was officially announced. Akshay Kumar plays the lead in this movie. Kiara Advani is the female lead.

This is the Hindi language remake of the Tamil movie Kanchana. Kanchana is about a man who is scared of venturing out of the house. The spirit of a transgender possesses him, to avenge her and her family’s death. The local MLA had killed them, in order to grab their land. The movie has a Kannada version, Kalpana as well as a Sinhala version, Maya. The Bengali version is Mayabini.

Laxxmi Bomb releases on 20 May, 2020.

These are the five most anticipated Bollywood horror films. Only one of them doesn’t have a release date. So, 2020 is all set to be a very interesting year for fans of Bollywood horror movies. Which one are you waiting for? Tell us in the comments section.
