Mr. India trilogy is in more trouble than one can anticipate. Earlier, I told you about how Shekhar Kapur, the director of the original had an issue with the announcement. He was stark about his thoughts. Now, Sonam Kapoor, daughter of the original Mr. India, Anil Kapoor, has come out against the movie.
The crux of the matter remains the same. Even Sonam Kapoor maintains that nobody asked either Shekhar Kapur or her father before going on to make the movie with that particular title. She went on to make a post on Twitter that’s a very detailed response to the controversy. She rightly says in the post that Mr. India is part of her father’s legacy. Whoever wants to remake the movie should have at least spoken to her father.
In light of this controversy, I would like to say that the world of film titles and film scripts and all that is very murky. With names like Ali Abbas Zafar and ZEE Studios involved, it’s weird that its a controversy at all.
All said and done, I am still wondering how ZEE comes into the picture (pun intended) when it comes to Mr. India. Boney Kapoor and Satish Kaushik produced the movie. The IMDb page doesn’t mention ZEE in any capacity. The Wikipedia page maintains that the distributor for Mr. India was Narshima Enterprises.
Its time now for Boney Kapoor, the producer of the original movie to give his take on what’s happening.
