Ruskin Bond is one of the most iconic figures in literary history. Readers love his books. His books have an earthy and supernatural element. Some of the newest content creators adapted his stories into short films. One short film, The Black Cat, starred Ruskin’s friend Tom Alter. The Black Cat was one of the final projects Alter was involved in.
Penguin Audio Books will adapt some of Bond’s most popular work into audiobooks. Ruskin Bond will narrate these books. The books cater to several genres, including adventure, thrillers, children’s stories and so on. Some Ruskin Bond stories that have already made the mark are ‘Cherry Tree’, ‘Getting Granny’s Glasses’, ‘The Eyes of the Eagle’, ‘White Mice’, ‘Earthquake’, and others. The audiobooks Bond narrates will be available in the form of chapter books. This means that the short stories will be further divided into shorter modules making it easier for younger audiences to understand and enjoy the stories.
There’s no initial launch date set for the Ruskin Bond audiobooks. Most portals saying that the audiobooks will launch in early 2020. The first month of the year has passed, so I am thinking the launch should happen soon. The Penguin audiobooks website has yet to show the Ruskin Bond audiobooks in their inventory.
Novels and short stories going the audiobooks are a great impetus for up and coming writers. The audiobooks Industry is a growing niche right now in India. Amazon is at the forefront of this with its Audible and the made-for-India concept of the Suno App. Other than that, the various streaming music platforms, like JioSaavn, Hungama and so many others could always jump into the fray, once the audiobook industry gains a niche in the Indian mindset.
