The Grudge, the latest entrant in the Hollywood horror franchise of the same name is streaming on Amazon Prime (India). The horror franchise returned to the screens in 2019 and opened to underwhelming reviews. Its a decent watch for horror fans. A female police officer delves into investigating a house where strange things happen – including deaths. As she continues the investigation, it gets more and more personal, with whatever haunting the house threatening to swallow her personal life as well. Amazon Prime presents the movie in Hindi, English, Tamil and Telugu.
Sony Pictures launched the movie in early 2020. Nicholas Pesce wrote the story, screenplay and directed it The cast includes Andrea Risenborough, Demian Bichir, John Cho, Betty Gilpin, Lin Shaye and Jackie Weaver. Wikpedia says the movie is an average grosser. The production budget was $10-14 million, and it grossed $49.5 million.

The first Grudge movie launched in 2002. The Japanese production starred Megumi Okina, Misaki Ito, Takashi Matsuyama and Yui Ichikawa. Sony Pictures Entertainment released the 2004 remake, The Grudge, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jason Behr. The franchise has a cult following in American and the Japanese horror fiction circles. The movie is popular for its gory scenes and a camera thatrefuses to go away from where the action is.
The movie joins a long list of post modern horror franchises that returned to the big screen, including the Hollywood horror franchise The Invisible Man and Fantasy Island. Amazon Prime has launched an onslaught of new movies and web series during the lockdown and this movie is the latest offering. Amazon Prime started its bounty with the Bollywood comedy movie Good Newzz. The streaming channel launched the second season of Homecoming and then some interesting South language thriller movies. Looks like the streaming giant has a lot more in store.
