ZEE5 and SonyLIV are the digital arms of the mainstream channels, ZEE and Sony. The channels have several horror titles in their inventory. Favorite horror titles, like Aahat, The Zee Horror Show are available online.
Unfortunately, both ZEE5 and SonyLIV have a problem. Fans of horror fiction use Facebook and YouTube to upload illegal copies. Granted, a connoisseur will not like the quality of the videos, but they are famous within the horror community. In fact, there’s one very active group on Facebook that shares its name with one of the Ramsays serials. That Facebook group routinely uploads bootlegged copies of the episodes from the aforementioned series.
Piracy is rampant and pretty open. The Facebook groups are private, but anyone can Like the page. Later on, admins of the groups and pages post messages that a certain episode will be up for viewing soon. Bollywood has a movie piracy problem as well. But the number of pirated videos of the classic horror series is unprecedented.
IHC is not linking to the bootleg ZEE5 and SonyLIV videos. The videos are available both on Facebook and YouTube. But the problem is real. It’s high time both channels take pains and make the classic Indian horror series available on their platforms. Some of the channels have more than three thousand subscribers. Some of these channels have been active for just a month and others have gone strong for more than a year.
